All Kawan campsites, or nearly all of them, have walking
trails nearby. From a gentle walk in the fields to a strenuous mountain hike, the walking opportunities are as varied as the campsites. However,
some make more effort than others to organise guided walks exploring regional fauna and flora and heritage. Some examples are presented below…
Kawan Village l’Hirondelle (FR)
Walking between provence and vercors
A few miles from Chatillon en Diois,
Kawan Village l’Hirondelle enjoys an exceptional
natural setting. It is bathed in an almost
Provencal climate conducive to growing vines,
but is just a few minutes by car from the foothills
of the Vercors massif. From the campsite you
can take a walk through the lavender-hued
countryside of la Drôme or hike across upland
Alpine landscapes. The campsite offers guided
walks exploring the Diois vultures, orchids and
beavers. These walks will also educate you
about the heritage of this very historic region, its
pastoral traditions and its vines, which produce
the famous Clairette de Die.

Kawan Village le Talouch (FR)
GPS Hiking
For the past three years, Kawan Village
le Talouch has been using new technologies to
improve services for walkers. The campsite
uses a GPS to give you the information you
need for your walks in the Gers countryside.
The principle is straightforward. First, you
need to choose your walk from the 350km
of trails which run along the Coeur de
Gascogne section of the GR hiking route
and the Arles Way, one of the Ways of St
James. The various routes are displayed at
the campsite reception. Once you have chosen
your route, it is downloaded to one of
the campsite’s portable GPS devices. You just
have to let it guide you. The new feature for
2009 is the option to download walks to
your GPS directly from the campsite website.
It is also possible to display these routes in
Google Earth.

Kawan Village le Pré Lombard (FR)
Exploring the Pyrénées
Le Kawan Village le Pré Lombard is in an area which
is ideal for walking. Located at the
foot of the Pyrenees in the Cathares region
which is home to many castles and the Niaux
cave, the campsite has a wide choice of
walking opportunities, of all difficulty levels.
In order to help you explore the flora and
fauna of this region (including its wolves,
eagles and vultures), and its traditions, such
as transhumance, Kawan Village le Pré
Lombard can take you on guided walks
(accompanied by a multilingual guide).
Please contact the campsite for details on
the walks it offers.
