Campsites go green!
Of all forms of tourist accommodation, camping has always been the one that, due to its nature-bound character, is the most concerned by the
environment. It goes without saying that, when holiday-makers are drawn
to natural surroundings, this environment should be as well-preserved
and clean as possible.
Since ‘ecology’ has become a preoccupying
household theme, campsites have been pursuing their commitment in
favour of the environment. If certain measures put into effect on-site are
barely observed by campers, other more visible infrastructures have been
created to make your stay more pleasant. We invite you now to discover several network
campsites particularly committed to the conservation of their environment.
KAWAN NATURE
The Kawan chain of campsites has
created the “Kawan Nature” label
in order to introduce the network
of sites having chosen to invest in
environmental protection, but also to
highlight the value of their own
nature zones
The Kawan Villages site that has
chosen to become a Kawan Nature
site must respect a certain number of
commitments. In the environmental
protection sector, these campsites use
the selective sorting of waste,
recyclable sacks and diverse watersaving
devices. They also use organic
cleaning products. So that each guest
participates in this action, information
signs are placed throughout the site’s
grounds as a reminder on how each
person can help in this ecological
campaign.
Nevertheless, as favourable as these
actions are for the environment,
they only participate in a certain
sense in terms of promoting the
values of nature. Kawan Nature
campsites further develop their
natural setting on-site and heighten
children’s awareness in respect to the
environment. The objectives on these
sites are the installation of bird
feeders, discovery of plant and tree
species as well as a varied activities
programme to the theme of nature.
FOCUS ON A FEW CAMPSITES
Kawan Village La Grande Tortue (Val de Loire - F)
Located close to the lovely
city of Blois, the Kawan
Village La Grande Tortue benefits
from an outstanding setting.
Bordering a vast forest region,
this site is particularly wooded
and has adapted its layout
accordingly. With such strong
willingness to preserve this
natural setting and to support
environmental protection, La
Grande Tortue has undertaken
certain ecological measures,
such as solar heating for the
pools, the use of a heat pump
in the sanitary facilities, the
installation of water-saving
devices in the accommodations
and in the sanitary units
and the creation of an
environmental chart for site
guests and the personnel.
In the years to come, this
Kawan Village will not cease
to develop and implement
other ecological programmes.
There is already a system of
rain water recuperation for
the watering of the site’s
vegetation and weeding by a
burning process (without
chemicals) in use.
Kawan Village Les Mimosas (Languedoc - F)
The Kawan Village Les Mimosas nestles in the heart of the Narbon
Regional Park and benefits from an environment
offering an abundance of brilliant flora and fauna
(wild orchids, thyme, rosemary, pink flamingos,
herons…). For this magnificent setting to remain
intact, the campsite has made an ecological choice.
Solar panels and heating pumps have been installed
to heat the pool and the pool complex; the sanitary
facilities and the accommodations are equipped with
output reducers and energy-saving light bulbs have
replaced classical light bulbs as soon as it is
convenient. There is also a waste selection zone
on-site; to be further developed in the years to come.
Kawan Village Le Talouch (Gers - F)
In a natural environment brimming with tranquillity, the
Kawan Village Le Talouch nestles in
the heart of a network of 350 km of walking paths. For your
discovery outings in this area, the campsite has decided to
install a system of markers in its natural surroundings. You are
then invited to rent a GPS in order to follow the various
itineraries. This concept is not the only ecological commitment Le Talouch
has decided to implement. New customers are given sacks in
order to sort their waste material and organic cleaning products
are sold in the shops. Loyal to the same philosophy, the pool is
heated by a heat pump. Perhaps these efforts are somewhat
invisible to the guest, but campers will certainly appreciate
other efforts implemented by the owners, such as the
integrated landscaping of the infrastructures and arrangement
of its rental accommodation in order to really appreciate the
beauty of the countryside of the Gers.
Kawan Village La Colombière (Haute Savoie - F)
Due to massive construction work (necessary for the
creation of the site’s new reception and its indoor
pool), the Kawan Village La Colombière has taken on a new ecological aspect.
In addition to solar panels, wood wool insulation and
water-saving systems (pool water used in the toilet
flushing system, etc.), a new heating unit has been
installed. This unit functions on the base of compost
material and thus allows the recycling of “green”
waste. In order to heighten campers’ awareness of the
environment, one may visit these
installations, complete
with an explanation of
this concept. These
informative visits
will be organised
once per week, or on
request.
