The Bay of Somme is one of the best renowned places for bird-watching in France…
Every year, birdwatching enthusiasts migrate towards the Somme bay
to participate in the Festival de l’Oiseau (“Bird Festival”) that took place this year from 18th to 26th April 2009.
The Somme bay region is no ordinary site for birdwatching. For that matter,
there is the Marquenterre bird reserve that is the home for hundreds of bird
species, migratory or not, as well as the Maison de l’Oiseau at Saint Valéry sur
Somme.
The Festival de l’Oiseau has been held for the last 19 years in the region and,
progressively each year, has become the event not to be missed for those with a
passion for ornithology. There are children’s activities, exhibitions, film shows and
even outings to observe the birds on the Somme bay planned on the festival
schedule.
