France / Normandie – Presqu’île du Cotentin
Whether you have a passion for history or you are a nature lover either way you will not be disappointed at Kawan Village le Cormoran. Looking out to sea and adjacent to the Cotentin Regional Park, the campsite is situated in the heart of this unspoilt countryside dotted with reminders of D-Day.
Come and discover many sites to visit:
Normandy will remain in history as an emblem of D-Day. Just 10 kms from the campsite discover two of the main sites regarding D-Day: Utah Beach and its museum together with Sainte Mère Eglise where the image of the parachutist hanging from the church spire lingers in memory.
Off-shore from Saint Vaast, 20 kms from le Cormoran, the little island of Tatihou is a protected natural area which at low tide, becomes a peninsula. The island has an ornithological reserve, a museum about the history of the island as well as 17th century fortifications.
Embark on a journey to the depths of the ocean at 'Cité de la Mer', 45 kms from the campsite. Housed in the old transatlantic harbour buildings at Cherbourg, the museum traces the story of man's exploration of the ocean floor…the highlight is a real trip in a submarine!
Specialities to sample...
The sweetmakers, Dupont d'Isigny, famous for their toffees made with rich Normandy milk, are based just 20 kms from Kawan Village le Cormoran at Carentan. The choice is difficult with flavours such as vanilla, chocolate, hazelnut and apple!
Normandy is cider country… but the apples are also used to produce the more potent calvados. At Yvetot- Bocage (25 kms from le Cormoran) you can visit the 'Cidrerie de la Chesnaie' and not only sample their cider but also their calvados and pommeau.
All this local produce is available in the grocery shop at Kawan Village le Cormoran.
But also...
All types of seafood: sea shells, oysters, mussels, etc.
Local meats ("de prés salés"): lamb, beef... and vegetables
