To the east of this massif, between the mountains and the sea, you are invited to explore the rocky inlets and tiny fishing ports of the Vermeille Coast nestling between Collioure and the Spanish border. Travelling back up the coast discover the well known broad sandy beaches, such as la Grande Motte, Cap d'Agde and Canet Plage. Close by you may explore the charming historic centres of Arles and Nîmes, with their impressive Roman remains, the port of Sète, as well as the medieval sites of Carcassonne and St. Guilhem le Désert.

Perhaps they cannot compete with the grands crus of Bordeaux or Burgundy, but are nevertheless very pleasant - Corbières, Minervois, Banyuls, etc.

The speciality of Pézenas, near Beziers, is these small pies filled with roast pork.

La Tielle
A speciality from Sète; a round pastry stuffed with a mixture of octopus and tomatoes.
